What's the point of the Vatican? Why does the Pope need to live in luxury

What's the point of the Vatican? Why does the Pope need to live in luxury?
Selling the Vatican could feed hundreds of millions of starving Africans. Just seems a little unchristian for the church to be extremely wealthy, when Jesus never shut up about how much rich people suck. I'm not converting to your insane religion, stop it and answer the question Steve Irwin: CRIKEY!

There is no "vatican" in the Bible, and there is no "pope" in the Bible. Every "pope" is a false prophet. No "pope" speaks for Jesus. Catholicism is not Christian. Catholicism leads to eternal torment in hell, because catholicism teaches works for salvation, which is a false gospel (Galatians 1:6-9).

Sell the Vatican, feed the Hungry! But on a serious note: It is because the catholic church is power structure, not a humanitarian organization

The Catholic Church already feeds a lot more people than you do. In fact, apart from the United States taxpayers, it feeds more people than ANY organization on this planet. And all you can do is complain. Shame on you!

Don't worry about the "pope." Stay away from Catholicism. It isn't Christian. Only Jesus saves. Please pray a sincere prayer with all of your heart admitting to Jesus you are a sinner. Have full faith that His blood pays off all of your sins and accept His gift of everlasting life. I pray that God blesses you with peace. Amen.

Yes, selling the Vatican might feed millions. For a day!

When you don't have the truth, material possessions make a good second choice.

There is absolutely NO point of having either a Vatican or a pope. BOTH are unbiblical. Pope = Vicar of Christ In other words, The Pope is Christ on Earth. Is that blasphemy or what?? Do you realize The Antichrist is someone who takes the place of Christ? Well, the Catholics have their Pope, who takes the place of Christ on Earth. THE POPE The Pope is called "Our Holy Father". See encyclical letter of Pope Leo XIII in the Douay Version of the Bible. He is also called "Our Most Holy Lord", Pope Pius X. See Cardinals Oath. Moreri, a famous historian said, "To make war against the Pope is to make war against God, seeing the Pope is God and God is the Pope". Decius said, "The Pope can do all things God can do". Pope Leo XIII said of himself, "The supreme teacher in the Church is the Roman Pontiff. Union of minds, therefore, requires, together with a perfect accord in the one faith, complete submission and obedience of will to the Church and to the Roman Pontiff, as to God himself." Pope Pius X said, "The Pope is not only the representative of Jesus Christ, but he is Jesus Christ himself hidden under the veil of the flesh. Does the Pope speak? It is Jesus Christ who speaks." Pope Pius XI once declared, "You know that I am the Holy Father, the representative of God on earth, the Vicar of Christ, which means that I am God on the earth." All this is blasphemy!

well the pope cannot sell the vatican because it is not his. The vatican city state belongs to the church, that is to the whole of the church all one some odd billion people. The pope lives there but it is not his. Father Mitch pacwa tells a story about a church in a poor part of southern america. The back wall of this church was decorated with gold. One day a new priest came to the parish and he suggested that all the gold be taken down and sold and given to the poor. Now this seems perfectly reasonable however the poor people came to him and asked him to not sell it. Why he asked. The response was, that those gold decorations were the only beautiful things that they owned. Likewise while some money could be made from selling all of the vatican that beauty that is available to all of us in the church would be forever taken from us, therefore the church does not sell.

The Pope lives in a small rent free apartment in the middle of an old museum. The mission of the Catholic Church is to proclaim and establish the Kingdom of God begun by Jesus Christ among all peoples. The Church endeavors to save souls. Keeping the priceless art available at the Vatican in trust for all mankind to come, see, and inspire belief in the Kingdom of God is part of this mission. The Church might be able to raise a couple of billion dollars by selling everything but that would soon be gone and the world would not be much better off. Especially if mankind does not change for the better. Both the Old and New Testament says that it is the mission of all mankind (including you and me) to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves. It is our job to stop poverty and create justice and peace. If every human being on the planet gave $10 then $60 billion would be raised. If the one billion people in the richest countries gave one $100 each then $100 billion would be raised. Not only do these riches make the Vatican art collections look paltry, this is only a fraction of what can really be raised if people got their priorities straight. You and I and the rest of humanity can do much much more to "help people" than the Vatican can all by itself. We need to stop making excuses for our selfishness by pushing the blame on to the Catholic Church. By the way, the Catholic Charities worldwide distribute billions of dollars in goods and services each year to the needy and have been doing so for well over a thousand years. Oh, and lets not forget that the Vatican has the ultimate responsibility for the lifelong support of over 400,000 priests, over 54,000 religious brothers, and over 760,000 religious sisters worldwide. http://cara.georgetown.edu/bulletin/index.htm With love in Christ.
