Christians do you think Catholics worshiping the Pope is a sin

Christians do you think Catholics worshiping the Pope is a sin?
I know it is worshiping but why say that the Pope is the closest thing to God when you can speak to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the closest things to God, the Pope is nowhere near our God he is just a man living in the Vatican city. Do they not understand that they are idolaters and Idolatry is a big gigantic sin. What is so special about the Pope? My fellow Christian brothers and sisters please enlighten me on this. Bless those who care about this. Please do not leave any rude or obnoxious comments. Danke

Yes, worshipping the Pope would be a sin.

Worship of anyone or anything other than God is mortal sin Luk 4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

I think it is a sin to bear false witness against Catholics with this kind of misrepresentation. Try reading the 8th Commandment. If you can't find it, email me.

Catholics do not 'worship' the Pope. They honor and obey him as one would honor and obey the head of a family (which is what he is). Do not mistake honor for worship. The Catholics worship God (in the three persons of the Trinity) only. They Honor Mary and the saints and the Pope. Please get your facts straight before accusing any religion of doing anything. It only makes you look stupid.

Worshiping the Pope is a sin Catholics do not worship the Pope. I wish Chick comics would stop printing that. Tony Alamo used to say that also.

Well I know they don't "worship" him. I do see things differently than them, yes. But I've known many Catholics who are just like us and actually pray to Jesus. Leave the judgment to God. We don't understand enough to truly judge anyone.

Do you know that bearing false witness is a SIN and is as bad as murder in the eyes of God? Or do you not believe God when he "Commands" you not bear false witness? Unless you can show in the Catechism or the Code of Canon Law that Catholics worship the Pope you have violated that commandment. Catholics worship God alone. The Pope, as a successor of St. Peter is the Vicar (Representative of Christ) on earth. He speaks infallibly when speaking on matters of faith and morals. You need to repent and ask God to forgive you. I will pray for your ignorance. <<<Devout Catholic>>>

There is a difference between worship and respect. That matter though is (in my current understanding) is best left between that person and God.

Worshiping the Pope or anyone or anything but God would be a great sin. Who are you calling idolaters? Certainly Catholic Christians cannot be called this as the Church in no uncertain terms forbids idolatry in any form. Here is the official teaching from the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Idolatry 2112 The first commandment condemns polytheism. It requires man neither to believe in, nor to venerate, other divinities than the one true God. Scripture constantly recalls this rejection of "idols, [of] silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see." These empty idols make their worshippers empty: "Those who make them are like them; so are all who trust in them."42 God, however, is the "living God"43 who gives life and intervenes in history. 2113 Idolatry not only refers to false pagan worship. It remains a constant temptation to faith. Idolatry consists in divinizing what is not God. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons (for example, satanism), power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money, etc. Jesus says, "You cannot serve God and mammon."44 Many martyrs died for not adoring "the Beast"45 refusing even to simulate such worship. Idolatry rejects the unique Lordship of God; it is therefore incompatible with communion with God.46 2114 Human life finds its unity in the adoration of the one God. The commandment to worship the Lord alone integrates man and saves him from an endless disintegration. Idolatry is a perversion of man's innate religious sense. An idolater is someone who "transfers his indestructible notion of God to anything other than God."47 God bless! In Christ Fr. Joseph

Absolutely I will never ever worshiped the Pope that would be a sin and Catholics don"t worship the Pope. In Matthew 16:18 is key to understanding Christ’s intent to pass on the authority to lead the Church to Peter and the apostles. Christ tells Peter that he is the rock on which He will build His church. When Catholics use the term apostolic succession, they are referring to the line of bishops that stretches all the way back to the apostles—to Peter—the first Pope. Apostolic tradition (the authentic teaching of the apostles) was handed from Christ to the apostles, and from them to their successors. This unbroken line of popes (the bishops of Rome) and all other bishops have guided the Church for the past 2,000 years, just as Christ intended (Matthew 28:19-20). Christ sent His apostles out into the world with authority to teach and heal (Luke 9:1-2) and to forgive sins (John 20:23). This God-given authority is exercised by the bishops within the Catholic Church to this day.

Catholics are Christians. Catholics, and Orthodox, are the first Christians. ALL other forms of Christianity emerged more than 1500 years later. Catholics do not worship the Pope, Mary, the Saints, statues, etc. That is idolatry and it is forbidden. The Pope is not divine. He is the spiritual successor of Peter, whom was appointed by Christ himself. This line of succession is unbroken for nearly 2000 years. Christ promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against his church. I'd say that a 2000 year record (so far) is a good indication that Christ has kept his promise. How about observing a Catholic Mass to see for yourself whom we worship? You know, I could ask a similar question to protestants; "Do you think protestants worshiping the Bible is a sin?"
