Why do I have to believe in YOUR God? Why can't I have my Own

Why do I have to believe in YOUR God? Why can't I have my Own!?
I was raced in a Christian family with all the values and all the ideas and morals. However, as I grew older I started questions the "whys" and the "hows". After studying the bible a bit I understood that is so perverted with ideas for "people" (like kings) or the catholic church after Peter. Look at the vatican! Can I just believe in a supperior being that is not perverted like us, and doesnt care about what we think, doesnt want us to adore him/her/it, doest want churches and convertions, but for us to really live our lives? I think all this "religions" have devided people, even though they are all adoring and thinking of the same God in different ways? Why can't I have my own believes without Christians, Muslims, etc trying to convert me? Is there anyone out their that thinks humans they are not the center of the world instead, that they are only part of it? Are there any guys/girls out there that believe like me?? Am I alone?

You don't have to believe in other gods... you can make your own if you want to! :-)
2 :
You CAN'T believe in my god. I don't have anything so foolish.
3 :
If you free yourself from the clutches of organised religions, you can think of real God. Or say your own God.
4 :
i do not like the idea of forcing religion down peoples throats i accept that there are people who would not believe the same thing as me. you are welcome to believe whatever you want, as long as it is not centered around violence. etc

raced? drag raced or nascar raced? no dictionary in your christian family? try here: http://www.dictionary.com also, there's a spell check function on yahoo answers.. try it some time.. you christians sound like a bunch of morons. or is it that you are making believe you're a different religion for insulting purposes?

You can have and serve any god you wish. Trouble is - is your god able to save you? Choose wisely. Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

you can. if you read carefully, each and every chrsitian has their own individual god. the inconsistances are staring you in the face. it's a wonder there aren't millions of little christian cults. actually there nearly are, if you think about the number of independant churches that exist.

"Christianity...[has become] the most perverted system that ever shone on man....Rogueries, absurdities and untruths were perpetrated upon the teachings of Jesus by a large band of dupes and imposters led by Paul, the first great corrupter of the teaching of Jesus." --- Thomas Jefferson “The son-ship of Jesus Christ is the greatest fiction of human history.” (Lord Bishop of Canterbury Commission, the Spiritual Head of England, 1910.) “The son-ship of Jesus Christ, the Trinity, the blood sacrifice of the lamb of God, atonement are not the teachings of Jesus. These are all inventions of Saint Paul who never really met Jesus.” (Hastings Rashdall, The Theory of Good and Evil) "Initially there were 34 gospels that were compiled by word of mouth. Four were chosen for unclear reasons and 30 were left behind [burned]. (Encyclopedia Britannica) “There is strong reason to believe that St. Paul fabricated the belief system of Christianity from Zoroastrian mythology. In order to hide Paul’s plaigerism… Christians burned the library of Alexandria in 390 A.D. Books in that library kept Mithra’s original story of what Pauline Doctrine is an almost exact copy. (George Sarton , Introduction to History of Sciences) ,

it's better to believe in what you think is real, all-powerful, etc. rather than forcing yourself into what you couldn't accept. it's okay for you to have your own god as long as you will also respect the beliefs of other people. with that you can also earn their respect in what you believe in.
12 :
I agree that religions divide. Of course you can believe whatever you like. But some people will always want to push their own beliefs at you. Just ignore them - or evangelise right back at them and see how they like it.
13 :
Hey, I am religious, but I have no problem with you. Why not believe in your own God? And you're not alone. Everyone's God is a little different - you can have two Christians, or two Muslims or Jews or Buddhists or Hindus or whatever, and their God is going to be viewed a little differently in each person. It all depends on WHO you are. Oh, and by the way, I do believe that humans aren't the center of the world - we're only a part of it. Great philosophy! Maybe you're a prophet?
14 :
I'm totally with you brother. Society is always trying to force people into a corner by making them decide upon a religion to belong to even though they may not agree with it. I don't try to convert people to athiesm, so why can't religious people just leave me alone? I was raised Catholic and i can't believe how America has turned against Muslims when it is Catholic priests who are being sued for child molestation. Where are the uprisings about that? Where is the war for the innocent victims of Catholicism? You are not alone, plenty of people feel the same way you do but they are not as brave as you. It is hard to speak out against something your entire family believes in. Many people just ignore the "whys" and "hows." So that they can fit in with society. But you are stronger than that and i hope you will continue to question the status quo.

No your not alone Omar, your just in very rare company. You can make up your own religion instead of following religions made up and modifeid by countless other people. No Sweat! Or you can not believe anything at all, thats just as good. Or you can even specififcally believe that all religions are fairy tales. Thats called Atheism. It won't bite you. In fact the majority of Atheists are also Humanists. Humanists think it is up to us to make the world better and to take responsibility for our own actions. No blaming the fairy tales for the good or bad things. If you start wearing black clothes and grow a beard and have devilish gleam in your eyes and a smirking lip, those religious people may leave you alone after all. But beware, evrerybody on this planet is crazy. That includes all religions, all alleged sceptics, all science dogma followers. Of course, science does seem to help us the most (in my opinion) but that doesn't mean its true either. Science is a model of what is true. In any case, try to have some fun and some love or whatever else you are after in life and don't take the crazy people (everyone) too seriously.

You can. You have a free-will. Jesus says 'those who put their hands to the plow and look back, aren't fit for My Kingdom." So make a choice. You can believe what you want, but that doesn't mean it's right. God is God and God does not change. People want to create their own 'gods' and make Him the way they want. That way they believe they will be comfortable and nothing will be asked of them that they don't want to give. Of course, there's that 'thing' of Salvation. And that 'thing' of "Follow Me!" But if you're not willing to follow..... just tell Him. Are there other's like you - yes. You ask, "Am I alone?" .....Maybe not now, but you will be. ............Eternity is a loooooooooooog time.

A Christian God is the God that manifested Himself in history. You can't believe in a God of your own making or a God of hearsay, or a God whom other people spoke of or was taught at school. You need to experience His actions else the God you have is the God who doesn't exist at all but just a creation of your thoughts springing from your fears. You are not alone. He will always be with you even if everyone abandons you. All you need is a sincere desire to know Him and He will reveal Himself to you.
18 :
You are alone in the sense of there is NO god.or gods.or pixies.or elves.or leprechauns.or orcs.or goblins.or space gorillas.or flying monkey wolves.....etc.etc.etc.
19 :
your not alone there are many people who have chosen their own path in life and no one has the right to ridicule you for that believe what you want and if some one doesn't like it than have nothing to do with them its that simple
20 :
They gunna use their numbers to gang up on ya all Christian like you gunna worry because you are outside a protective group and still thinking crazy--a belief in an unprovable concept? Dumbledores got style you know.
21 :
You're not alone apparently. I see no one is stopping you too have your own religion or forcing you to become a Christian.
22 :
Finally! Someone like me. Where have you been all my life. The Yahoo Gods have brought us together i see. ( I am not mocking you, though it may sound that way ) I agree with you on all levels, especially when you say, "I think all this "religions" have devided people, even though they are all adoring and thinking of the same God in different ways?" Different Paths, Same Destination. That's what i always say. Believe me when i tell you, you are not alone in your way of thinking. There are many people who think like us. I believe in a Higher Power, but because i was born as an Indian into a Hindu family, i grew up reading and understanding the religion. I saw it as just another way to reach God, along with all the other said and unsaid religions in the world. I do not fear that i will be in Hell one day, because i've done right by me. I believe and have lived most of my life this way. Always do the right thing, walk the right path. Do what is morally and ethically accepted. Even if it means, you have to hurt yourself once in awhile. This is how i am, i know most people would not agree with me. But i choose to live this way, as long as i can do one good deed a day. Every morning when i wake up, i have 2 choices. I can either make someone's day or break someone's day. I choose the former. Why put a frown on someone's face when you can put a smile. Tell me now. Isn't love and good deeds what every religion teaches you? Once again, you're not alone. There are many like us out there.
23 :
Omar C you do not have to believe in my God now. You have all the right to do whatever you like but with freedom comes also being accountable for your own actions. You are not alone in the way you think and many people do not want to accept the truth because of pride. We do not need o look at people but we need to look at Jesus and what He did for us on Calvary and how much pain He went through so that all who come to him may have everlasting life. The ball is in your court so you decide what you want for yourself and know that God will hold you accountable for all you do.
24 :
You're not alone. My parents are Christians and they are disappointed that I don't believe in Christ. When they told me that I should follow them because we're family, I didn't know how to feel. You will never be free from proselytization. I get very ticked off when they tell me what I believe is wrong and that their religion is the only correct way. Just be your best self and be strong. You decide what you want to believe. With or without a religion, a person should really learn to love his family and help others in his capacity.
25 :
go right ahead. then again, i don't fall into any of the demographics listed. lol.
26 :
If you do actually believe in God then theres no need to worry. People can't tell you what God to believe in( although there is only one true God). All they can tell you is what they believe, and if you choose not to believe them because you have your own set of beliefs then that's totally up to you. Nobody is making you come here and argue your beliefs.
27 :
Though there are several religions in the world, God is one.
28 :
im not forcing you to believe mine,,,you have the right to stand up to what you believe in!
29 :
never believe in any religion -just be yourself, do unto others as you want them to do unto you and you will be alright. The moment you follow a religion you will be taught to hate people of other faiths and you will find great hatred in you
30 :
You are not alone. You can have ur Own God. If there is God, i'm sure u can find him without anyone leading u. We will go hand in hand. No one follows the other, ok? All the best! I think religions won't be that bad, if there weren't people telling u, they know a lot and that they can tell u what God meant or wants. How do they know better than us. We all are the same, aren't we?
31 :
You CAN believe in whatever god you wish to follow, or for that matter you can choose not to follow ANY god. No one will or can force you one way or the other. You are not alone in your "quest" there are a lot of people that feel as you do. I am truly sorry that you have been unsuccessful in discovering the TRUTH contained in the Scriptures! (though you say you only studied it for a bit, and I don't know how you "studied", or how much of the Bible you studied?) I do agree with you that there are a lot of religions that mankind has "perverted" with inconsistencies etc. But that does NOT mean that TRUTH can not be found! God DOES care about what we think, and how we feel, and all our questions & everything that we hold dear. He even says; "My people perish for lack of knowledge!" He wants us ALL to "work" together, but we are sinful humanity,..and struggle (much like yourself) to have it our OWN way rather than His, which is EXACTLY why there are so many cults & false religions out there in this world in the first place. I don't know who is trying to "convert" you, I KNOW that a true Christian would NOT attempt that as God does not want us to force feed anyone!! But the TRUTH is out there & it can be FOUND!
32 :
Omar C, My religion does not go out and try to convert anyone to our form of religion. If fact we make it very hard to convert even if you want to. Plus what I believe is no one's business but mine. I have discovered three things in life that are not worth the time to argue: Religion, Abortion, and Politics. You cannot, no matter how hard you try to change the mind of anyone on those subjects no matter what side they are on. Bill
33 :
That all depend on what the truth of the matter is. If I make up my own birthday cards, no one has a problem with that. If I make up my own speed limit, well, that may have more complicated results. If there really is no god, then go ahead, make one up. If there is a God, it might do some good to know something about Him. If someone comes into the world, claims to be the Son of God, then dies, that one thing. If that person then comes back to life, well, you may have more complicated results wishing him away. Oh, and by the way, Paul did meet the resurrected Jesus, and his conversion to Christianity, and his message, met with approval by the entire group of the original apostles (except, of course, for Judas). Luke wrote that, not Paul, so its not Paul’s story, it’s the church’s story, and it's good history. So the Mithraism conspiracy theory is somewhat torched. Funny how, when you really want to demonize a group, you reach for the most outlandish excuses to discredit them. But it will never work on genuine Christians. Sorry. See, we have actually tasted the resurrection. We know its real like we know we exist. It's that basic.

Hello, Blessings and Peace. You have put forward a most meaningful answer. It is only natural that a individual ( and not a sheep) would want to question and seek worth for yourself. I prefer the Unitarian tradition above many others and you do not even has to profess faith in a supreme being. You are correct in saying that Religion divides, it has many shortcomings and will not unite, unless all traditions use reason and free will to act to fulfill the basic needs of humanity. You are right in your posting and we have much in common. I worship not the Christian or Jewish God but worship God through: "Come, thou power of the Most High, and the compassion that is perfect, Come Gift of the Most High. Come, compassionate mother. Come communion of the male. Come, she that revealeth the hidden mysteries. Come, mother of the seven houses, that thy rest may be in the eighth house. Come, elder of the house members, mind, thought, reflectiom, consideration, reason; communicate with these young men. Come holy spirit, and cleanse their reins and their heart, and give them the added seal, in the name of the farther and son and holy ghost" See what I mean? The God that I believe in, Yahweh, wrote pages and pages of advanced scientific instructions for mankind to follow and survive on Earth. The evidence of His scientific knowledge can be found in The Torah, The Bible and The Dead Sea Scrolls. Since no other religion's religious books contain evidence of their god's scientific knowledge I will continue to believe in mine.

my dear friend, learn for once----God is one. Only one for the entire world. All the different names, looks are simply to highlight different virtues of God. Power with passion, soft yet firm, merciful yet just, kind yet strict, attached yet detached,... these are all the virtues that have been given different names and possibly, different looks. Follow any religion and any God, it will make you feel calm.

Hinduism says that you and God are one. Hinduism, the world’s oldest religion, has no beginning--it precedes recorded history. It has no human founder. It is a mystical religion, leading the devotee to personally experience the Truth within, finally reaching the pinnacle of consciousness where man and God are one. Who is God? Where is God? How can I come to know God?" God has no names, but all names are the names of God. Whether you call Him this or that, He remains Who He is. But in our tradition we call God by the loving name Siva, which is only one of His 1,008 traditional names. Supreme God Siva is both within us and outside of us. Even desire, the fulfillment of desire, the joy, the pain, the sorrow, birth and death -- this is all Siva, nothing but Siva. This is hard to believe for the unenlightened individual who cannot see how a good, kind and loving God could create pain and sorrow. Actually, we find that Siva did not -- not in the sense that is commonly thought. God gave the law of karma, decreeing that each energy sent into motion returns with equal force. In looking closely at this natural law, we can see that we create our own joy, our own pain, our own sorrow and our own release from sorrow. Yet we could not even do this except for the power and existence of our loving Lord. It takes much meditation to find God Siva in all things, through all things. In this striving -- as in perfecting any art or science -- regular daily disciplines must be faithfully adhered to. Siva is the immanent personal Lord, and He is transcendent Reality. Siva is a God of love, boundless love. He loves each and every one. Each soul is created by Him and guided by Him through life. God Siva is everywhere. There is no place where Siva is not. He is in you. He is in this temple. He is in the trees. He is in the sky, in the clouds, in the planets. He is the galaxies swirling in space and the space between galaxies, too. He is the universe. His cosmic dance of creation, preservation and dissolution is happening this very moment in every atom of the universe. God Siva is, and is in all things. He permeates all things. He is immanent, with a beautiful form, a human-like form which can actually be seen and has been seen by many people in visions. He is also transcendent, beyond time, cause and space. That is almost too much for the mind to comprehend, isn't it? Therefore, we have to meditate on these things. God Siva is so close to us. Where does He live? In the Third World. And in this form He can talk and think and love and receive our prayers and guide our karma. He commands vast numbers of devas who go forth to do His will all over the world, all over the galaxy, throughout the universe. These are matters told to us by the rishis; and we have discovered them in our own meditations. So always worship this great God. Never fear Him. He is the Self of your self. He is closer than your own breath. His nature is love, and if you worship Him with devotion you will know love and be loving toward others. Devotees of God Siva love everyone. This is how God Siva can be seen everywhere and in everyone. He is there as the Soul of each soul. You can open your inner eye and see Him in others, see Him in the world as the world. Little by little, discipline yourself to meditate at the same time each day. Meditate, discover the silent center of yourself, then go deep within, to the core of your real Being. Slowly the purity comes. Slowly the awakening comes. For more info, please visit http://www.himalayanacademy.com/resources/books/wih/

please tell me that you're my long-lost twin brother.lol! but what you're saying is true though- i don't believe in god and i'm being raised by a jewish mother and a catholic father, i have an islamic brother and another brother, who follows buddhism. im the only athiest. besides, did you know that because all the holy texts had to be translated into different languages every few hundred yearsand by the time they were translated into english, they may not have any of the original text in them? like the bible with the feeding of the 5000- jesus might have only fed his family (him, mary, joseph, mary magdeline, and john the baptist, for example) and as the years went on and the bible was translated, the number 5 slowly worked its way up to 5000, so that's one example of mistranslation. what about the healing? jesus may have been a doctor of his time- its that simple.he could have taught the blind to see with their ears (taught thm how to use their hearing to recognise people, things, etc) and the deaf to hear with their eyes (taught them to know what something sounds like when they look at it and to lip read). As for the leporasy sufferers- the answer is simple- he killed them, or, at the very least, he gave them a lotion or something which eased the pain. Also, who says that god is a 'he' and not a she or an it? all holy texts are sexist, because they refer to god as 'he', which shows that all holy texts were written to show that men were powerful and better than women. for all we know, god could be a rabbit, or a woman. i rest my case.
