Can the Pope be of any race or country

Can the Pope be of any race or country?
I heard that the Pope is from Germany and not the Vatican or Italy. If someone lives in Canada or Brazil or any other place in the world, are they able to be the Pope? Or do they have to live within a certain area?

Yes they can be from any country or race. They must be Roman Catholic... They must be a cardinal in the Catholic hierarchy. As a matter of fact we had 3 African popes. And also in the last pope election the other candidate who had the 2nd most votes before Pope Benedict was a Brazilian cardinal. The leader of the Brazilian committee of bishops.
