Sarah Silverman is right, why don't we sell the Vatican to feed the world?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bObItmxAGc I mean she's absolutely right! Where the pope lives is a frickin' city; why he he even has his own country! (The Holy See of the Vatican) Why not move those old male cardinals from St. Peters, and give them a few young boys, and sell the all the monetary belongings the Church *ehm forcefully* collects in the Vatican Archives. I mean, they're all valuable to the whole world; and you could possibly end a third of the world hunger at least by ending this madness. Sarah Silverman says 'The Pope preaches to live humbly. And I totally agree. So why not move out from your house that is a city?'

Who has that kind of money? Bill Gates couldn't even afford the Vatican
2 :
Because then we would all know the secrets they are hiding in there...and they could never have that happen.
3 :
Do you really believe hunger is a matter of resources? We produce more than enough food to feed the world. The problem is not resources my friend.
4 :
Why stop at the Vatican? Switzerland has some cool stuff I've always had my eye on. Let's just take it.

We could always just stop supporting Israel and save hundreds of billions of dollars. I'm not against the Vatican. I say let Western Catholics have their Vatican; and I'm Pagan.

i agree 100 percent pope is such a hypocrit

That is a wild over simplification... But I understand the sentiment, that the Vatican should spend more money on helping feed the poor and all that. However, in their defense, Catholicism does a LOT to help out humanity. They fund medical research, outreach programs, shelters and all sorts of other things. They do a lot in the name of their faith. Also, God is In a good mood makes an EXCELLENT point. There is a lot to this problem, far more than just having more resources.

For that matter, imagine how much money they could use for good if they just wore inexpensive clothes instead of all those luxurious robes and elaborate hats. I think everyone has the right to practice whatever religion they like, but honestly, I don't know how Catholics put up with the Church or why there hasn't been some sort of uprising and overthrow.

Because the starving of the world is not due to a lack of food, but to the corruption of the governemts that handle the money for food, and the food when it is shipped. So, if you sold the whole Vatican complex, all that will happen will be the rulers of the world will get wealther, and the poor will still have hunger. That is why God decreed that all elements of this world must go, not only the bad religion, but also the bad governments. Daniel 2:44

So who do you think would buy it? No privet citizen could afford it, nor could they pay for its upkeep. The Italian government is almost bankrupt. I mean, people like you have no rational perspective on the world. Castles all over Europe are falling appart because no one, not even governments can afford them, except maybe the wealthest of Governments like Britian or France. But they wouldn't be interested in the Vatican. Many English people want to stop funding the Royal Family. I have been to the Vatican, and I like it how it stands. You can tour St. Peters basilica without paying a dime. They dont turn away non Catholics or non Christians, its open to ALL. In addition, the Vatican Museum is among the most affordable museums of Europe, they have a wonderful collection, with out high entry fee of other museums. It would be very sad to see the priceless sculptures, paintings, and other fine arts be auctioned off like cattle, never to be seen again by the public. But you people aren't interested in antiquity, culture, or learning. You are simply motivated by bigotry. Finally, the Catholic Church is doing more to help Africa than any other single institution on the planet. As a result, the number of Catholics in Africa has skyrocketed. What have you done for our impoverished brothers and sisters?

I would think she would be more angry that the pope is an ex nazi. What about the folly of her people? Its easy to point the finger, many do it but are they clean?

Ms Silverman's statement is blatantly anti-Catholic. She seems to aim to mock bigotry and stereotypes but here she is being both bigoted and stereotypical. Would her fellow Jews laugh about her suggestion to sell the State of Israel and and insult the Chief Rabbinate of Israel? The mission of the Catholic Church is to proclaim and establish the Kingdom of God begun by Jesus Christ among all peoples. The Church endeavors to save souls. Keeping the priceless art available at the Vatican in trust for all mankind to come, see, and inspire belief in the Kingdom of God is part of this mission. The Church might be able to raise a couple of billion dollars by selling everything but that would soon be gone and the world would not be much better off. Especially if mankind does not change for the better. Both the Old and New Testament says that it is the mission of all mankind (including you and me) to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves. It is our job to stop poverty and create justice and peace. If every human being on the planet gave $10 then $60 billion would be raised. If the one billion people in the richest countries gave one $100 each then $100 billion would be raised. Not only do these riches make the Vatican art collections look paltry, this is only a fraction of what can really be raised if people got their priorities straight. You and I and the rest of humanity can do much much more to "help people" than the Vatican can all by itself. We need to stop making excuses for our selfishness by pushing the blame on to the Catholic Church. By the way, the Catholic Charities worldwide distribute billions of dollars in goods and services each year to the needy and have been doing so for well over a thousand years. Oh, and lets not forget that the Vatican has the ultimate responsibility for the lifelong support of over 400,000 priests, over 54,000 religious brothers, and over 760,000 religious sisters worldwide. http://cara.georgetown.edu/bulletin/index.htm With love in Christ.
