it's difficult to say in which area of Italy you live better cause the cost of life in Italy is very very high. now i tell u the things that Italians don't tell cause they're ashamed. well, Italy is a bad bad place, for a variety of reasons.the bureaucracy is endless, but u don't know how! there is no justice, for a simple theft.i make an example: if u suffer a theft ,it does make no sense to file a complaint cause nobody will refund you.and think for an homicide! is incredible how Italian politicians have so many freedom and power to do everything what they want without limitless.think of Berlusconi, nobody stop him, nobody try to do it. and the Italian policy is governed by Mafia, and everybody knows this thing,Italians know it very well. Italian politicians always do favors to Mafia.among them Italian people talk about these things, but don't in public place,as in highschools, they have fear to tell this things in public. Italians are generally very very rudes and boors, sure u can find an educated and polite Italian but generally they're as i said, rudes and boors. and the Italians who come from southern have the tendency to scream when they talk with somebody.and it's easily that it happens this,if u are in southern:for a discussion on a football match, where a person is not agrees on some things of the match with the other person, this person pulls out knives to understand to the other that he's right. Italy is very very dirty and neglected.do u know the situation in Naples?the city more dirty and poor of Italy.i tell u why the problem of the rubbish in Naples will never ends.the people, from always, never do the recycle of the garbage, they leave the rubbish everywhere.and the municipality, instead to take the garbage, leave it where is.somebody say that this happens cause Cammorra,a type of Mafia, control Naples.but the problem of the rubbish where is also because people are very dirty and careless.in Naples are frequent thefts, theft made by Neapolitans.if u go to Naples don't wear valuables:sanglasses, rings, necklacess, bracelets,… i specify that thieves steal the things that have no value too. the cost of the life in Italy is very very high, the highest of Europe.and as productivity Italy is in the last place.as positions Italy is better compared to Greece, but Italy is worst compared to Spain.remember that Spain and Greece are the countries that sinking.in Italy u can't find jobs,u must stay at home 4 many, many, many months. and it's not important that u r a bachelor, cause there aren't jobs even 4 bachelors. but the absurdity is that the Italian politicians continue to say to Italians that Italy is the better country of the world, the better place to live and that Italy have the better and serious policy of the world.......!!!!! PROS of Italy:only these things, food and art so,if u want live in an European country choose Germany, but Finland and Norway too, this are the better places, the countries more rich and clean of Europe.but in your case,it has a lot of more sense that u go in English-speaking countries,as Australia.i hear that here life is good. i'm not Italian but this things i know very well cause my mother is Italian,an Italian who was born and grew up in Italy until the age of 22.my mother don't have problems to tell the truth about Italy, she says that Italians prefer to deny the situation of Italy rather to accept it. is not a case if many many Italians prefer to live in other country.and is not a case that many many Italians want live in U.S. besides my mother, many Italians(who come from all parts of Italy,of every types of social classes, went in U.S. to live or just to do holidays) said to me all this.and they say that Italians prefer believe in an gorgeous Italy that don't existe. Italians don't accept that somebody tell the truth about them and their country, they want that everybody think and say that Italy is an amazing country, but it's important tell all and not only the positive things.probably Italian answerers will give me low ratings, and they'll start to insult me cause they don't accept that I tell the truth.doing this they show as usual what kind of people they are. To sum up Italy is a bad place to live,it's a terrible very bad idea to want to live there, among other things Italians don't know English, even not the most elementary form. Italy is a good place to do holidays but not to go to live there. listen me,you avoid to create by yourself a lot of problems.I know many Americans who lived in Italy or live today and they aren't happy and satisfied.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, if that's what you want. However, jobs in Italy are hard to find, and if you do find them, is more likely that that happens in northern Italy, where jobs are higher and quality of life and richness is evident. The south should be considered the best place to live, because of the historical heritage it holds, its food, its people, (yeah, believe it or not southern italians are way different form those from the north), but jobs are hard to find and safety is an issue. I live in a nice and peaceful region in northern Italy; lots of Americans ex military live here with their Italian wives and children. You mentioned the Italian language barrier, that's true if you want to come here and live, but with effort and diligence you can learn the language too. So my bet for you is, try northern Italy and look for the cities close to American bases, being close to people who speak your language might do the trick.

The first user that you replied is a troll. Italy has many problems, but she exaggerates! Emilia Romagna is a beautiful region where you could go and live, if you want ! Sorry for my bad English

Your best bet is school first - either getting into a university here in Italy or taking a program that allows you to complete a semester or year abroad. The education visa is easier to get than a visa for work and it will allow you to learn what life is like here and improve your language skills. You'll also be able to make contacts that can help landing a job later. It will be difficult to get a job here especially with only a high school degree and you'll need a visa that allows you to live and work here before you come. The easiest ways to move are through a student visa or an elective residence visa, but you would need to prove you can support yourself without working. You can't just pick up, move to another country and look for a job. For example, it would be illegal for you to either live in or work in the countries in Europe (or elsewhere) without obtaining a visa that allows you to live and work here before you come. Right now, the economy is not good and there are not many jobs available. The best opportunity is probably in the healthcare field. EU citizens have the right to live and work freely within the EU, others cannot automatically live and work here. I've been living in northern Italy for the past 12 years. The site for visas here in Italy is: http://www.esteri.it/visti/index_eng.asp . The site has links to the application, the additional information you need to supply in order to get the visa and where to apply. It also includes education visas which are somewhat easier to get than work visas. A work permit is separate - you cannot apply for that yourself. The company has to apply and they have to be able to demonstrate that there is not a viable EU candidate for the job. As a result, jobs for foreigners including Canadian or US citizens are pretty much restricted to people with special education, knowledge, or experience ... and you would have to be able to speak the local language. Right now, as noted above, the best bet would probably be something in the healthcare field as mentioned before. When I moved here, it was through a transfer of the job I was already doing in the US to the Italian office. Even so, it took 8 months to put all the paperwork in place to apply for a visa. It's useful to check the expat sites for information about living and working in the places you might be interested in: http://www.expatsinitaly.com/ http://www.escapeartist.com/ http://www.expatica.com/
