so as I was sitting there watching the mass the pope gave in Rome I realized something?
he was reading something and speaking to the ppl there ,I was watching his every move and gesture and then I realized the space around him. I saw many Altar boys and Bishops and who knows what, standing and some sitting.I saw that a lot of them where wearing a lot of golden Items and fine Robes and the popes outfit was splendid and it was sparkling as he move about. I was intrigued by this because as they showed the masses of ppl that where listening to him and and praying, they where simple dressed ,almost humble, some of them had tears on their faces, then the camera went back to Benedict and glitter was jumping around on my TV. I have been to many sermons ,weddings or funerals ,and I did not see the lavish outfits and the lavish gold that was jumping out at you! I am wondering I guess, what is so godly about FLAUNTING your wealth around like the Vatican does? what possesses them to be this extravagant when the World is in uproar about joblessness and tight wallets with the global recession? I would like to know in all honesty ,the humble Jesus,if he indeed came back and saw this, what would he do or say you think? So many ppl live in hardship and the gold on the walls at this place at the vatican is simply INSANE for lack of a better word. why Flaunt like that? is this not display of power and riches, something Christ would have not ever gone for? I mean am I off my rocker to be this disgusted? is this the stuff they buy with their flocks hard earned cash that they have to give to the church? Sandy sue- you really don't wanna go there honey because you would look super stupid and ignorant if you knew who I am and what I do!

"People" is a word. Please use it.

No you're not off your rocker... just wait till you hear about how many little boys benedict has touched :p
3 :
It's tradition and some like the pagentry of the ceremonies.

If the Vatican crumbles (which I hope it does) they can sell that gold and feed the poor. It goes to show you those Christian foundations to help the needy is for PR only. There is a tremendous amount of wealth in the Vatican.

The Catholic church has an enormous opportunity to do good in the world and its an opportunity that is constantly and arrogantly being wasted. Even as an atheist, I'm sorry for that.

People have eyes and yet they do not see.

Yeah I think your off your rocker. These robes are used year after year for special masses such as Easter. Why are you concerned when Catholic Charities is the largest religious charity in the world. What do you do for charity? You are more concerned with bashing Catholics.
8 :
As a Catholic, I will be honest with you. You are half right. The other half is that the papacy does not belong to that one person. The papacy represents the presence of Jesus on earth. (Jesus Christ is often called King of KIngs) The flaunting you pointed out is the splendor of God's Glory, especially on Easter Sunday. Having said that, many Catholics feel certain uneasiness like you said when it comes to the church's wealth.

The pope isn't running for reelection, and thus doesn't need to put up with sophomoric evening news questions like this one.

I guess you have issues with rap stars too.

Sometimes, money just makes me want to go live in the woods. :[ So much conflict over paper and rocks. v_v;

The money you put in the basket every Sunday...where did you think it goes?

Generally, religions want as many followers as possible. If the Pope was dressed in simple clothes and had a small, modest home, less people would listen. The more money you show, the more power you have. And no, you're not off your rocker. I think it's disgusting too.

>>I mean am I off my rocker to be this disgusted?<< Yes. The clergy have such limited wardrobes, I don't doubt they spend less on clothing than the average person.

That's one of my problems with religion. Have you seen the national churches!? They are f'in HUGE

When a person enters the priesthood, or sisterhood, I was under the impression that they were required to give up earthly possessions and give them to the poor and needy. It must be good to work in the holy city!

Your observations are 'right on' . . . Christ said: “Woe to you, scribes and pharisees [the false religious leaders in Jesus' day, who correspond to those in our day], hypocrites! because you... *outwardly* indeed appear beautiful but inside are full of... every sort of uncleanness. ...you, *outwardly* indeed, appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness." --Matthew 23:27,28 http://watchtower.org/bible/mt/chapter_023.htm?bk=mt;chp=23;vs=27-28;citation#bk27 "Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying: 'The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses. Therefore all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but do not perform. They bind up heavy loads and put them upon the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger. All the works they do they do to be viewed by men; for they broaden the [scripture-containing] cases that they wear as safeguards, and enlarge the fringes [of their garments]. They like the most prominent place at evening meals and the front seats in the synagogues, and the greetings in the marketplaces and to be called Rabbi by men. But you, do not you be called Rabbi, for one is your teacher, whereas all you are brothers. Moreover, do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your Father, the heavenly One. Neither be called ‘leaders,’ for your Leader is one, the Christ. But the greatest one among You must be Your minister. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." --Matthew 23:1-12 http://watchtower.org/bible/mt/chapter_023.htm?bk=mt;chp=23;vs=1-12;citation#bk1 “Why, then, do you call me ‘Lord! Lord!’ but do not do the things I say?†--Luke 6:46 http://watchtower.org/bible/lu/chapter_006.htm?bk=mt;chp=6;vs=46;citation#bk46 ". . . False Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. Look! I have forewarned You." --Matthew 24:24,25 http://watchtower.org/bible/mt/chapter_024.htm?bk=mt;chp=24;vs=24-25;citation#bk24 "What Does the Future Hold for Christianity?" - A Sneak Attack on Christianity - Christianity Subverted - True Christians Shining in the Darkness http://watchtower.org/e/200702/article_03.htm http://jw-media.org/aboutjw/article42.htm#kingdomhalls

What you ask is the voice of reason. When the pope stands before Jesus I believe Jesus will say to him, "Be gone I never knew you."
19 :
Yes, they are rich guy, and rich guy can wearing anything money can buy. I don't think Jesus will wearing like that but you know, they are not Jesus.

Hats off to your statement! its so true and shows that the Vatican has been instrumental in changing what Christianity really stands for Imagine this.. Bible says dont eat Pork.. Worlds largest pork eating community is the Christians, The Bible says Women should Cover, And largest population with exposing women come from the Christian world The biggest irony is the population that follows what is said above is the Muslims My bigger question is.. do you need a preist in order to speak to God? can we not speak to God Directly like the Muslims do.. In Makkah (equal to Vatican to Muslims) .. Kings and common people pray alongside one another without caste or creed every single man is treated as equal!!!

well slave of, its an incling into what christianty is all about power, wealth, control, manipulation their using a man dressed in fine robes etc, is very symbolic, and an easy way to manipulate people despite what we want to beleive about ourselves, we judge peopel based on appearances so if he came out dressed like a tramp, noone would take any notice of him, and would probably mock him but, he comes out like a king, so is treated like one

Speaking of money, you are aware, I'm sure, that in addition to being the largest Christian denomination by far, the Catholic Church is also the world's largest charitable organization. Yup, that takes money, all right.

A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her styled for a trip to Rome with her husband - she mentioned the trip to the hairdresser who responded ' Rome ? why would anyone want to go there ? - it's crowded and dirty - you're crasy to go to Rome - so how are you getting there ? ' we're flying Continental' was the reply ' we got a great deal' - 'Continental ?' said the hairdresser ' that's a terrible airline their planes are old their flight attendants are ugly and they're always late - so where are you staying in Rome ?' -' we'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste' - don't go any further I know that place - everybody thinks it's gonna be something special and exclusive but is really a dump' - 'we're going to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope' - 'that's rich' laughed the hairdresser - you and a million other people trying to see him - he could look the size of an ant - boy good luck on this lousy trip of yours - you're gonna need it'. A month later the woman again came in for a hairdo - the hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome - ' it was wonderful' explained the woman - ' not only were we on time in one of Continentals brand new planes - but it was overbooked and they bumped us up to first class - the food and wine was wonderful and a handsome 28 year old steward who waited on me hand and foot - and the hotel was great ! - they'd just finished a $ 5 million remodelling job and now it's a jewel the finest hotel in the city - they were overbooked so they apologised and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge ! ' - well muttered the hairdresser - 'that' all well and good but I know you didn't get to see the Pope ! ' - ' actually we were quite lucky because we toured the Vatican - a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors and if I would be so kind as to step into his private room and wait - the Pope would personally greet me - sure enough five minutes later the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand ! - I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me' - ' oh really ! ' - what'd he say ? ' - ' he said ' who the f**k did your hair ? '.

I will be very blatant with this question. The answer is, the pope is from his father the Devil and not a true follower of Christ. Jesus openly exposed the Pharisees for their extravagant garb and ill treatment of the lowly and poor. The apostle Paul worked as a tent maker to earn money so he could preach the word. Jesus overturned tables at the temple because of the money being made off of those poor who could not even afford a dove as a sacrifice. He saw great sacrifice in a widow who gave all she had. Even Jesus himself said foxes have dens but he had nowhere to lay his head. Jesus whole goal in live, just like the apostles, was to take care of the flock and feed them spiritually. When Jesus comes in his Kingly power he will denounce and destroy all false religious leaders who wickedly lead those who want to serve God. I can give a scripture for every sentence in my answer but I am afraid it might fall on deaf ears.
